Dreamhost have a very nifty referral system that allows their users (that is anyone) to set up their own promo codes. The maximum discount you can give is $97. So if you chose to give a discount of $30 for your users, you will get $67 from each user that uses your promo code. Sounds cool, ey? But people are offering $97 discounts - so the people offering these codes get $0 in return… or do they?
You want to get the maximum discount when buying something (generally), so would you choose a discount of $90, $95 or $97 (and 100’s of promo codes for dream host can be found via a simple Google search)? Most would prefer the $97. But most people setting up these promo codes want to keep a bit of profit for themselves, so most will say “Use [examplepromocode] to save upto $95 on dreamhost” and then they get $2 commission (or whatever). It is near to the max of $97 but still lets the person setting up the promo code get a bit of profit.
You have a LOT more chance of refering a lot of people with a $97 discount than $90/91….95/96 ones, because a few other people have cottoned on to the strategy that is given to you below and are also offering $97 discounts. So people will ignore your $95 or whatever discount and save another 1 or 2 dollars and use a $97 discount promo code.
But you can still make (often a lot more) profit by giving $97 discounts. The way it works (to make money via offering promo codes for dream host that give a full $97 discount) is that you refer someone, they get a whole $97 discount, you get $0, but then if they refer another customer you get a nice $5!
So if you use the promo code LONDON97 you get the maximum discount you can get on dream host. I get $0 from it, but if you refer other people I’ll get $5 and you will get whatever you set it up as (go to home - rewards to set them up).
I am not just saying this, LONDON97 gives you a discount of upto $97 which is the maximum one allowed.
